Victory the bottom line for rising Rotherham boxer Junaid Bostan

BRITISH boxing is wondering how long Rotherham's Junaid Bostan can sustain his chilling knockout record.

Will it come to an end on July 1, when he takes on his first ever active champion?

The man himself isn't beating himself up over either the speculation or the challenge ahead.

He knows all about the clamour for another stoppage and the fact his opponent is Ryan Amos, the Midlands Area Super Welter belt holder.

But such is the composure of the 21-year-old from Eastwood, he simply sees next month's Sheffield Arena, contest as another rung on the ladder heading to where he wants to be.

“Priority number one is the win,” he said.

“Priority number two is the win, also.

“In third place I want to win and look good doing so and hopefully get that stoppage.

“I am on a roll at the moment (five wins, five KOs) and don't feel like a stoppage is out of my grasp in this fight,” he told the Advertiser.

“I don't go out head hunting but I do pick my shots and am spiteful in what I do.”

Bostan sees the Arena date as one in which he can make a further statement on his journey towards domestic titles and overseas belts.

While he is not overlooking fellow-unbeaten boxer Amos (W 10 L0 D1), he'd love to have a couple more outings in 2023, maybe eventually challenging English Super Welter kingpin Sam Gilley.

“We have been building a lot of momentum and my sixth fight will be a matter of me saying: 'I am here!'

“I have got something to prove and when that happens I usually do it. I am looking forward to a statement fight.

“My performances and the way I have been progressing have been speaking for itself and I intend to carry that on.

“I know I am very early on in my career but I have big things to achieve. I aspire to do great things and this is just a step on the ladder...I should be beating guys like this anyway.”

While Bostan believes he is on another level from Amos (32) from Nottingham, there is no doubt the away fighter has more experience.

“He has had ten fights, that is double the number I have.

“But I was brought up in a boxing gym, all my life. You can't buy that and come fight night his record won't mean anything. I am ready.”
