Training ground switch back on agenda

ROTHERHAM United's moth-balled site at Brinsworth is to become the club's long-term training base, with planners about to be set to work.

Chairman Tony Stewart acquired the former Outokumpu sports complex on Bawtry Road in 2011 with a view to turning it into a modern facility used by all the players, from Academy to senior level.

The plan was put on hold while energies were concentrated on the New York Stadium and improvements made to the existing training ground at Roundwood, which the club leases.

Mr Stewart is now ready to re-visit the Brinsworth project but stresses that any move will be carried out in conjunction with their landlords at Roundwood, with whom the club has enjoyed a good relationship.

Any development is expected to take two to three years to come to fruition.
