Titans ease home against Aberavon

SEVEN-try Rotherham Titans completed their British and Irish Cup campaign as they brushed aside Aberavon 49-7.

Coach Alex Codling gave debits to traillists Tom Carlisle, Lloyd Hayes and William Robinson and all put in good shifts while the star of the show was big no.8 Laurance Pearce. Formerly with Hull FC, he switched to rugbu union last year, only to suffer a ligament injury in a pre-season run-out at Sheffield Tigers.

After six months of recuperation, Pearce exploded into action against the Welshmen, scoring one of the tries and having a hand in several others. The others came from Nile Dacres, Joel Gill, Peter Homan, Hayes, Carlisle and a penalty try.

“A month ago you’d have looked at this as a dead rubber but I thought there were some outstanding performances, both for the short and for the longer term,” said Codling.

Titans are at hoem to table-toppers Newcastle on Saturday (3pm).
