Team in a class of their own

A ROTHERHAM schools team re-established only last year is celebrating a fantastic start to the season.

The U15 Rotherham School Select side is undefeated in four matches and has taken the scalps of their biggest regional rivals in the Yorkshire and Humberside League.

Co-ordinated by Dearne Valley College's Academy of Sport manager, Richard North, the 18-strong squad have beaten Doncaster and Wakefield and seen off Leeds 5-1 and Nottingham 11-0.

Richard said: “Last year's team truly set the benchmark where we needed to be as a representative team for Rotherham, and reaching the regional finals was a great achievement because it was the first year that we re-established schoolboy football within the area.

“The squad's parents and players were excited about the season ahead and have bought into the ethos. All the players have good attendance, academic achievement and behaviour records and are an absolute pleasure to work with.

“They understand the importance and responsibility of representing Rotherham and they are a credit to themselves, their families, their individual schools and their communities.”

The team will be defending their successful run against East Riding on Saturday at 10.30am at their home training ground at Dearne Valley College.
