Swimmer Matthew in top form

ROTHERHAM Metro swimming ace Matthew Sotheran was once again in scintillating form in the national qualifiers.

He claimed gold the 100 metre fly at the big event hosted by the City of Leeds club, achieving his national time. The 14-year-old followed up with a silver medal in the 400IM, 4th in the 200 individual medley and 6th in the 100 backstroke.

The event was contested in heats and the top ten in each age group went through to the finals, with many Metro swimmers coming away with personal bests.

Fourteen year-old breaststroke specialist Nicole Clarke had a fantastic weekend, claiming silver medals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and also finishing 8th in the 100 freestyle.

George Russell (13) was again in outstanding form, gaining silver and bronze in the 200 and 100 fly respectively and 5th in the 200 freestyle.
