Sutton's podium delight

CAR racer David Sutton put a difficult season behind him to grab an "amazing" podium finish in his latest outing.

The former go kart racer from Swinton, plagued by mechanical problems in recent races, enjoyed his best weekend of the season so far in the latest round of the APR Volkswagen Racing Cup at Snetterton.

After qualifying his Team HARD Golf GTI in seventh place in the first race and maintaining that position despite a braking imbalance, he sped to third place in the second race to cap a great day.

Sutton made a superb getaway to slot into fourth and then stole third from Leicester driver Henry Gilbert on the fourth lap. Despite late-race pressure from the Scirocco of Stewart Lines (Sutton Coldfield), he clung to third at the line for his maiden podium finish.

"After the season I've had so far, it was a brilliant result," said David, who is seventh in the championship.
