Stubbs on hunt for quality

ROTHERHAM United chief Alan Stubbs wants to go to war with a squad based on quality rather than quantity next season and says some “exciting” names already having been pitched to the club.

Stubbs has spent much of his first week in charge sounding out potential targets and fielding calls from agents.

With only ten players under contract and new deals still to be confirmed with four more, the Millers are ready to go to market and need people for all positions.

Stubbs hasn't disguised his interest in Celtic forward Anthony Stokes, released on a free transfer after a strong loan spell with him at Hibs last season.

Otherwise the new manager hasn't had to put himself about to find players will to come to Rotherham to play in the Championship.

Stubbs told the Advertiser: “I've got to be honest, a lot of agents are coming to me at the moment, not me going to them. I've had phone calls about certain individuals who have shown a willingness to come to the football club, which is a good sign going forward, and I have to admit there are some exciting ones amongst them.

“I want to bring some really talented footballers to compliment the already good footballers I have got here."

There's much more from Alan Stubbs and the Millers in this week's Advertiser.
