Stubbs eyes more signings

ROTHERHAM United chief Alan Stubbs finally has his first signing in the bag — and two or more could follow next week.

Anthony Forde joined on a three-year deal from Walsall yesterday after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the 22-year-old.

But with the first team squad now back in pre-season training and numbers still thin, Stubbs needs to add more fresh faces and has no shortage of options in front of him.

He won't be drawn on names and played down any interest in Forde's Walsall team-mate Tom Bradshaw. The striker was reportedly the subject of a £250,000 bid from the Millers this week.

He was similarly guarded on the subject of Millwall's' 27-goal forward Lee Gregory, another the club has been linked with, but it is clear the net has been cast far and wide in the search for new talent.

He told the Advertiser: “We're getting lots of names and we are actively interested in quite a few players but it would be wrong to name individuals while they are at clubs and still attached to them, I don't personally think it's the right thing to do.

"There's every chance a couple could come in next week, I can't rule it in and I can't rule it out either.”

There's much more from Alan Stubbs and pictures from the first day of pre-season in this week's Advertiser.
