Swinton-born Cresswell was Moore's first signing of last summer when he joined from Bury and he had developed a good rapport with the manager.
Their working relationship came to a sorry end with the heavy defeat at Chesterfield and as a lifelong Miller, the scale of the defeat and the loss of the manager hit Cresswell as much as anyone.

Hide AdHe said: "As captain, I have got to say how sorry the players are to see Ronnie go. It came as a surprise to us all.
"The lads were always 100 per cent behind him and we have to take some of the blame.
"We let down ourselves, the gaffer and everyone connected with Rotherham United on Friday night.
"It was undoubtedly the lowest point of my entire career, not just because we lost 5-0 but because it was a local derby, live on SKY and we had a big following there."
