Signings boost for Evans

KEY duo Lee Frecklington and Craig Morgan have provided a much-needed boost by committing their immediate futures to injury-plagued Rotherham United.

With a hefty FOURTEEN players on the treatment table after Tuesday's defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, manager Steve Evans brought in reinforcements yesterday by signing Huddersfield Town left-back Liam Ridehalgh on an emergency loan until January and young defender Jack O’Connell, an England U19 international, on a youth loan from Blackburn Rovers.

But retaining the services of all-action midfielder Frecklington and negotiating a new deal for Morgan, who has been a steadying influence in central defence since joining the club on a short-term contract in September, has always been a priority.

Frecklington's loan from Peterborough United has been extended until January with a view to the clubs agreeing a fee for him to stay permanently, while Morgan has penned a new 18-month deal.

“It's really good news for us,” Evans told the Advertiser ahead of tomorrow's trip to Exeter City.

“We'll be doing everything to stay in contention until our big players come back. Then it will be like having seven or eight new signings.”
