Scott welcomes new assistant

ROTHERHAM United manager Andy Scott has revealed his new right-hand man.

Darren Patterson (41) joins as assistant manager on a three-year contract from Bristol Rovers, where he was youth team coach.

The move sees him re-united with Scott, the two having played together for Oxford United ten years ago.

As a player, Patterson was capped 17 times by Northern Ireland and played for West Bromwich Albion, Wigan Athletic, Crystal Palace, Luton Town, Dundee United, York City and Oxford.

He also includes shorts spells as manager of Oxford and Bristol Rovers on his CV.

Scott said: "Darren is an excellent coach who is very experienced and enthusiastic and has played at the highest level for Northern Ireland.

"He works hard on the training ground and is good with the players and understands what they're about. He's played under some very good managers and learnt some good things through his career."

The Millers, meanwhile, have added another friendly to their pre-season schedule.

Huddersfield Town will visit Don Valley Stadium on Saturday, July 30 (3pm).

The new league fixtures for the 2011/12 season are out on Friday.
