Scott happy with Millers squad

ROTHERHAM United manager Andy Scott says he is not planning to bring in any new signings before the August transfer deadline unless players leave the club.

Boosted by nine new signings, the Millers are unbeaten after the first four league games and Scott is satisfied with his squad’s strength in depth.

“I think we are fortunate to have the squad we have got,” he said. “If other circumstances arise then that may have to change but I’m comfortable with what we have.

“We’re looking, because if anyone comes and takes one of our players then we will have to replace them and don’t want to be caught on our heels, but we are always looking at players who might be suited to us if we might require them.”

Scott saw his side twice come from behind to draw 2-2 at home to Barnet on Saturday and maintain their unbeaten start in League Two. Troy Brown netted the first goal, his first since his summer move from Ipswich, while Adam Le Fondre netted the point-clincher on 82 minutes.

“We were way off the mark in the first half but the character of the squad shone through,” said Scott. “We got a point out of it and had several good chances in the second half and were a lot more threatening but we can still do better.”

The reserves take on Bradford City this afternoon at their new home at Parkgate’s Roundwood ground (2pm), with the Millers using the match to give game time to fringe players ahead of Saturday’s clash at home to Gillingham.

Added Scott: “The lads who haven’t been playing will play in the reserves this afternoon. Then we’ll sit down tomorrow and watch the DVD of the Barnet game and analyse it and pick a few points out and be ready to go for Gillingham.”

“We were way off the mark in the first half and I made a couple of changes to freshen it up and give us more impetus going forward but we didn’t put pressure on the ball like we did in the first few games and gave it away so many times without any pressure on us. The unforced errors was ridiculous and it was painful to watch at times.

“Whether it’s tiredness or not, it shouldn’t be an excuse. Barnet had played four games in two weeks. We’d done a bit more travelling than them but they’ve been to Morecambe and played Gillingham in midweek and had to go to the 96th minute so that shouldn’t be the case.

“The character of the squad shone through and we got a point out of it and had several good chances in the second half and were a lot more threatening but we can still do better.

“We’ll sit down and watch the DVD and learn from it. This will test a few people and we’ll find what they’re about and see if they have the right answers.

“We’ve got ten points out of four games and we are sitting in a good position. We’ve another  tough home game coming up and another tough one away at Swindon so we will soon found out whether the fact we are unbeaten in the league is a reflection of where we should be in the league.

Taylor and Cresswell took knocks on Tuesday and tired. Will be fit for the weekend.

Raynes and Brown...

“They allowed Price to dominate them too much in the first half. We needed more composure on the ball but in the second half they looked solid and pretty comfortable.

“We’ve got some good players and it’s about partnerships. There will be times when Troy is away on international duty or someone is injured or suspended when a different partnership is needed so why not do it now. They are good enough to play together.

“It’s important the lads who have played every game get some rest.

“I’m pleased with the start we’ve made considering the long journey to Plymouth and to Crewe and that we’ve played Oxford, who are tipped to be up there as well. You also have to consider we’ve brought so many players in and it does take time to gel. No-one said it was going to happen overnight but we are getting there.

We should be pleased we have ten points and can push on from here and if we improve on those areas then we have shown we are a hard team to beat.

“Johnny Mullins is only a few weeks to getting back to training, which is a massive plus for us.

LES...

“Their chances came from our mistakes.

“Cresser took a knock and looked a little bit jaded after the Tuesday night at Crewe and it wasn’t a game where I could risk him being a little bit off colour so I made the decision.

“We got away with it in the first half. We could have been two down and against other teams we may have been out of sight but we responded well. It rst half was worrying but there were mitigating circumstances with a few players and we can understand dips in form and a little bit of tiredness. We’re not going to worry too much about it and try and get ready for Gillingham and try and beat them.

“I have always said League Two players are in this league because they are inconsistent and there’s a lot of things that make them that way but nothing has changed my belief in these players. Everyone is a little bit off colour sometimes and if you get away with a point then you tick it off and look to the next one.

“It will happen again throughout the season but if we can respond like we did, going behind twice and coming back, it shows we’ve got a lot of character.
