Scott faces up to criticism

UNDER-FIRE Millers chief Andy Scott says he is hurt by the criticism being hurled at him— but insists he is big enough to take it.

Despite an unlucky defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday, the Millers remain mid-table in League Two and with the play-offs as their only realistic target.

That is not good enough for many supporters, many of whom bought into the manager's pre-season predictions that the league title or automatic promotion were the goal.

Scott received public backing from chairman Tony Stewart last week but after four defeats from the last five he accepts that he and the team have to start turning their words into actions.

Asked if he was affected by the criticism, he said: "Of course it hurts, but the results hurt more than criticism because I don't like losing games of football.

"When you lose, you're going to get criticism no matter where you are or what you do; it's a fact of life. It's not something we want to deal with but I don't expect everyone to pat me on the back and say, get going again, because people are passionate about their football club and want their football club to win.

"Everyone deserves criticism and to be vilified in those circumstances. But the majority of the fans at Dagenham recognise it wasn't the right result, although it's results that count and we've got to get three points.

"As a manager, criticism is something you deal with and I'd rather take it than everyone else so the players can concentrate on their game."
