Salute to match winner

MANAGER Steve Evans praised match winner Kieran Agard after he came on to grab the decider at AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

The former Yeovil man headed in 11 minutes from time to seal a 1-0 victory at Kingsmeadow and lift the Millers back up to fourth spot in League Two.

Agard has had only limited opportunities since arriving at the New York Stadium in the summer but Evans said he was the model professional and deserved his moment of glory.

"If you're Kieran Agard, you probably having to scratch your head, injury apart, about why you're not in the side," he said. "He ran 70 yards to get to the penalty box to score and the whole dressing room was delighted for him because he shows what professional football people should be all about. He's extremely fit, hard-working and he has a massive heart for the game."

The victory was Rotherham's third on the spin away from home and they'll hope to make it four in tomorrow night's rearranged FA Cup second round reply at Notts County.

"That's a difficult challenge altogether," added Evans. "We need to keep our feet on the floor and prepare properly."

Skipper Ian Sharps misses out through suspension having picked up a fifth booking on Saturday.
