Rotherham-based white ball cricket league makes it easy to play

A NEW white ball cricket league is up and running in Rotherham.

The Yorkshire Premier League has  teams from areas including Aston, Maltby and Upper Haugh. Sheffield teams involved also include players from the town.

Organiser Raja Khan said: “Cricket has been struggling partly because getting grounds to play on is so difficult.

“I provide all the grounds, umpires and balls. All the players have to do is turn out.

“All our match summaries are online and it has turned out to be a very good league so far."

In the latest round of matches, Taz Tigers opened with 185-9 (Ishak 92) and then bowled out Sheffield Burak for 167.

Dadyaal Stars made 210-7 (Rizwan Rasheed 74) and then held Sangham Waleswood four runs short while Karak Power Hitters lived up their name, striking 214-6 off 25 overs (Mohammed 73) and then dismissing Pindi Tigers for 123.

The competition will conclude with a grand final on August 27 at which an international cricketer is being lined up to do the presentations.

There is prize money for the league and cup winners and the best batter and bowler will be awarded a holiday package.
