Roebuck delight at medal double

SWIMMER Joe Roebuck has voiced his delight after speeding to two medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The Rotherham man made up for a lacklustre showing in the 200m butterfly by scooping silver in the 400m medley and the 200m medley, adding to his bronze in the 200m medley in the European Championships in August.

He said: "Getting on the podium this year has been a great achievement. I love this big stage and it has been a good year," he said.

"I'm happy with how I've performed and relieved also because my racing is over and I can now support the rest of the team."

Swinton archer Amy Oliver, meanwhile, has won a team silver medal in the women's recurve team event but fell at the quarter-final stage of the individual.

The England Sevens team, which includes former Dinnington Comprehensive School pupil Tom Powell in the squad, beat Sri Lanka 58-7 today as the rugby got underway.
