REACTION: Burnell's anger as Titans lose lead at the death

JUSTIN Burnell blew a fuse after Titans late, late blow at Nottingham when they lost a 19-12 lead with the final play of the game to end with a draw.

It was a solid performance which brought tries from Ben Foley and Tom Calladine as Rotherham used their pack well to put the hosts, with four successive wins under their belts, in trouble with just minutes to go after two Will Robinson penalties put Burnell’s men in the box seat.

But their hopes of a win were damned by a failure to close out the game, especially with Nottingham struggling to make headway.

Poor game management and bad execution at a key time gave the Greens the ball after Titans gave away a needless penalty. James Stephenson took it quickly and as the ball was worked to within 5m of the visitors’ line with the last play of the game, Rob Langley smashed through the cover to score.

Burnell didn’t pull any punches afterwards.

“I wasn’t at all happy with that,” he said. “It was down to our game management and some of these players think they can do what they want.”

But on the positive side Titans did look strong at times, especially when the front eight pushed forward and caused plenty of problems for their Nottingham counterparts.

There’s a full analysis of the game in this week’s Advertiser, plus a look ahead to Saturday’s biggie against runaway leaders London Irish at Clifton Lane (2pm).
