Racer Justin in horror smash

RACER Justin Wilson’s IndyCar season came to a horrific end after his pelvis was broken in three places in a high speed crash.

The Rotherham driver suffered his second serious injury in two years after breaking his back in 2011.

Sunday’s race at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, saw Wilson spin on the 111th lap of the oval circuit before Tristan Vautier’s car slammed into his side.

The impact shattered the cockpit and left Wilson with non-operable pelvic fractures and a small pulmonary contusion.

He also complained at the scene of lower back pain and was carefully removed from the wrecked car, placed on a stretcher and transported by ground ambulance to the nearby Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further observation.

He was released on Monday and returned home to Denver to begin his long recuperation.
