Plug pulled on boxing at Magna

THE future of top-level boxing at Magna looks bleak after leading promoter Dave Coldwell announced plans to stage his next major event in Sheffield.

Coldwell rang what could be the final bell at the cash-strapped venue after a three-fold price hike knocked him for six following the last show.

Fast-rising Coldwell Boxing will now switch to Sheffield’s Ponds Forge complex with the next fight night having been inked in for May 17th, featuring Rotherham boxers Chad Gaynor and Nav Mansouri with Curtis Woodhouse topping the bill.

Coldwell and business partner Spencer Fearn had been optimistic that talks over the problem would prove fruitful — but they have heard nothing from Magna chiefs.

“It is massively disappointing because we had put a lot of time, effort and money into making Magna one of the leading boxing venues in the region,” said Coldwell.
