Parkgate aim for winning finale to beat relegation while Swallownest wait

PARKGATE will avoid relegation from the Northern Counties East League with a win from their final game tonight — and could send near neighbours Swallownest down.

Gate host Dronfield Town at Roundwood (7.45pm) knowing that three points will pull them out of reach of Swallownest near the bottom of Division One. Even a point will probably be enough due to their superior points difference.

However a defeat would give Swallownest the chance to escape should they beat Brigg Town at home tomorrow (7.45pm).

Both teams had good wins on Saturday, Parkgate seeing off play-off contenders AFC Wakefield 2-0 at Roundwood and Swall winning by the same score away to Dronfield courtesy of a Conner Brunt double.

Shirebrook Town and Athersley Rec are already consigned to a finish in the bottom three, with the exact number of teams going down still to be confirmed.

Swallownest were promoted into the NCEL six years ago from the County Senior League.
