Unbeaten runs served up by Men and Ladies
Moorgate tennis battle the weather and opponents in a busy week.
With the entire Works League program wiped out on a wet Wednesday and the Ladies A team fixture going the same way, it was left up to the unbeaten Ladies B team to try to bring the first win of the week as they travelled to face Hallamshire F in Division 5 of the Sheffield and District League.
Ada Wood and Carol Himsworth won both of their rubbers and a championship tie break win for Laura Cowan and Diane Watson confirmed the win despite Diane having to pull out of their second rubber through injury.
In the Men's Division 2 leaders Moorgate A entertained bottom club Chesterfield B and despite a brave fight from Chesterfield, with 4 matches being settled on a championship tie break the team of Adam Butcher/Dave Mangham, Gary Bridgeman/Daniel Hudson-Giddings and Jacob Porter/Cameron Wood ran out winners by an 8-1 scoreline.
Moorgate C played host to Graves C in Division 6 and the team of Alex Sykes/Rob Carr, Bilal Abbasi/Adnan Ishaq and Ben Mallinder/Harvey Sutton each won two rubbers, for a winning 6-1 lead when rain brought an early end to proceedings.
In Division 4 Moorgate B came up against the latest edition of the Jessop family, father and son Dom and Seb as they travelled to face Hallam Grange B with the home team's top two pairs proving too strong for Matt Hopps/Rob Wood, Joe Goodwin/Lee Hepplestone and Guy Stevens/Alex Lesniak although Joe/Lee and Guy/Alex did manage a win apiece in a 7-2 defeat.
In the Midweek Mixed Division 1 Moorgate A featuring Gary Bridgeman/Debbie Johnson and Daniel Hudson-Giddings/Laura Cowan went down to a narrow defeat at Grove, by 2 games, despite each pair recording a win
In Division 2 Moorgate B featuring Dave Mangham/Ada Wood and Cameron Wood/Jan Gaynor entertained Mexborough and the strength of father and daughter pair Chris/Isla Skelton was the difference as the visitors won on sets, despite one win each for the Moorgate pairs.
