Rotherham Titans rock Rosslyn Park to keep up promotion push

ROTHERHAM Titans won in the league at Rosslyn Park for the very first time to anchor second spot in National One.

They outscored their hosts by five tries to four in south west London to win 36-26 and stay four points behind leaders Plymouth Albion.

After trailing to a converted score early on, Titans struck back to lead 21-12 by half time with tries by second row John Okafor, no.8 Jack Baldry and wing Mitchell Lacey-Babalola, all converted by Lloyd Hayes.

The first meeting between the teams at Clifton Lane in October had been a tight affair won 27-26 by the home team.

This time Titans were much stronger, adapting well to the 4G surface at The Rock to secure the bonus point try from Jackson Barling before Lacey-Babalola claimed his second of the day.

Hayes added 11 points from the tee to underline his status as the section’s top try scorer while one-time promotion challengers Park had to be content with a four-try bonus point.

Director of rugby Harvey Biljon told the Advertiser: “I’m not sure many people in the league would have tipped us to go to Rosslyn Park on that surface and come away with five points.

"They are a very good team with threats across the park and they scored great tries against us but the composure and maturity we showed to remain calm and stick to process was very good.

"It looked like a controlled performance.”

Rotherham will go top should they take five points from their game in hand on Plymouth at home to Clifton Lane on Saturday (2pm).
