GOLF: Rotherham Golf Club secures victory in SUGC team championship

ROTHERHAM Golf Club stormed to victory in the SUGC Team Championship at Renishaw.

Charles Daughtrey, Jack Whaley, Lucas Martin and Dean Longden shot a four-man total of 286  to beat Silkstone by 22 shots. Lucas also scooped the executive trophy, the prize awarded for the best gross on the day, shooting a bogey-free 67. Jack also shot under par, a 70, Dean shot 74 and Charles 75, impressive scores on a rather cool and windy day.

Team manager Dean said: “These lads make winning look effortless, not only today, but through the league season they’ve been excellent as well.”

Rotherham have a 19-point lead at the top of Division One, and with the Turner Shield and Yorkshire Team Championship on the horizon there’s every chance the SUGC team championship won’t be the only silverware collected.
