Familiar faces triumph on Finals Day

There were a couple of a familiar winners as Moorgate completed their winter championships.

Part two of the much delayed Moorgate Winter Club Championships took place at the weekend and saw Georgina Taylor overcome a spirited Georgia Muffett in the Ladies singles and the same was true in the Men's singles as Dave Mangham beat Gary Bridgeman in straight sets.

Injuries, illness and holidays all contributed to a difficult week of league matches with all four Midweek Mixed sides losing and only winning one rubber between them thanks to Guy Stevens and Georgia Muffett in the C team and the same pair were only a tie break away from winning their second rubber.

It was a similar story in the Works League as the A team went down to a 3-1 defeat to their main title rivals Welbeck A with Guy once again featuring in the only win, this time with Michael Holmes.

Moorgate B went down to a similar defeat against Ridgeway A and this time had Lee Hepplestone and Joe Goodwin to thank for the single success.

Moorgate C travelled to face Ridgeway B in what turned out to be the only win of the week as Alex Sykes/Steve Dawson and Paul Wilman/Abdul Rehman won 4-0 despite three of the rubbers being tight affairs.

Moorgate D were the unluckiest team going down on countback, by one game, after a 2-2 draw which saw Steve Judge/Andrew Hughes and Harvey Sutton/Travis Elder both record one win.

The final fixture of the week saw Moorgate A entertain Beauchief A in Division 1 of the Ladies League and despite the best efforts of Georgina Taylor/Georgia Muffett and Freya Wilby/Laura Cowan the visitors took a 4-0 win.
