Athletes 'pelted with eggs' on charity run
Members of Manvers Triathlon Club were dressed in festive gear raising money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice last night when they were attacked with missiles on Wath Wood Road.
Officers from Rotherham North’s Neighbourhood Policing Team had just presented the runners with 30 personal attack alarms after the athletes had been getting verbal abuse and had items thrown at them by passing cars.
The alarms aimed to increase the runners' confidence and safety when they went out running alone or in small groups.
A member of the running club said on Facebook that they had been "attacked with eggs thrown from a car along Wath Wood Road".
The neighbourhood policing team said on social media of the latest incident: “This is clearly unacceptable and a criminal offence and the club will be reporting these matters.
“Any identified persons can expect a visit from the police.”
