ANGLING: Catches beat the early autumn chill
Leading the way silver fish wise was without doubt Ravenfield Ponds, where midweek and weekend matches have provided some brilliant results.
Last Wednesday’s Multi Pond League event was an excellent example, 20lbs not making the top six.

Hide AdTony Copnell took the top spot with a brilliant net of bream and ide weighing 47lbs 4ozs from peg 24.
In second place, in peg 18, was Harry Booth, who had 34lbs 2ozs of bream and tench which left Les Varley, on the opposite bank in third place with 32lbs 15ozs.
Brian Ellis took fourth place with 25lbs of bream, pushing Mick Bostock’s 24lbs 8ozs into fifth place and Mark Morris’ 22lbs into sixth.
Saturday’s Ravenfield Ponds Championship match resulted in much of the same. Brian Ellis improved upon his previous 25lbs catch with a stunning 53lbs 1oz winning net of bream all taken with the pole. In second place, using his dad’s favourite method, the puller, was Tony Brian, who weighed 41lbs 8ozs.

Hide AdA total of 32lbs gave Stuart Senior third place, leaving Mick Gill in fourth with 18lbs 10ozs. Neil Humphries was fifth with 14lbs 6ozs and Glynn Bramham sixth with 13lbs 4ozs.
The Wickersley Angling Centre voucher was won by Dave Howitt.
Trevor Parkin added to his win at Elsecar Reservoir last Sunday with a second victory on Thursday with a 13lbs 5ozs pole caught small fish net from peg 30 on the roadside.
Darren Cox was second with 12lbs 10ozs to the feeder and the section winners were Steve Faunthorpe 9lbs 2ozs, Ian Hodgson 7lbs 12ozs, John Cunliffe 7lbs 2ozs and Rob Hitchens 8lbs 6ozs.

Hide AdMeanwhile, Graeme Herbert made it five wins from six at Wentworth on Monday – a feat probably never seen before – taking a 41lbs 2ozs net from peg 23, the same peg he won from last week.
Mick White was second with 19lbs 15ozs which left Darren Coxx's 15lbs 1oz in third and Dave Howitt's 12lbs 12ozs in fourth.
Ernie Gilberthorpe was fifth with 11lbs 14ozs, just an ounce ahead of sixth placed Lee Cawthorne.
