Moorgate to the four!

THE Sheffield and District Winter League Division 1 saw a clash of two unbeaten teams as Moorgate A played host to Chesterfield A.

The final result turned out to be anything but close as Moorgate asserted their dominance.

Glyn Smith and Josh Bows made short work of the men’s doubles, winning in straight sets for the loss of just two games and that was followed by a straight-sets win for Georgina Taylor and Faye Sharpe, who was making her seasonal debut.

Josh and Georgina then dropped just one game on their way to a convincing win, soon to be followed by another straight-sets triumph for Glyn and Faye, giving the home team a comprehensive 4-0 win.

In Division 4, Moorgate B travelled to Mexborough B’s always-tricky courts and the Dave Mangham/Adam Butcher pairing were made to work hard for their win as they eventually came out on top in a championship tie break.

After an easy first set, things became closer for Debbie Johnson/Ada Wood who managed to win on a set tie break.

The mixed doubles brought comfortable wins for Dave/Ada and Adam/Debbie, which saw their team to a second successive 4-0 victory.
