Millers target Hunt

ROTHERHAM United expect to know this morning whether a late-night move for Crystal Palace defender Jack Hunt has been a success – while pushing ahead with a bid for a new forward.

Manager Steve Evans, who takes his side to Charlton Athletic tomorrow, wants to take 24-year-old Hunt on loan with a view to a permanent transfer and is also closing in on an “attack-minded” player before the end of the transfer window on Monday night.

Yorkshire-born Hunt, a right-back, has played 17 times for Nottingham Forest on loan this season and it is understood they wanted to sign him for £1 million but couldn't agree a fee.

He started his career at Huddersfield before switching to Palace two years ago for around £2 million.

Evans yesterday dismissed rumours linking midfielder Ben Pringle with Leeds as “nonsense” while preparing to part company with out-of-favour winger Ryan Hall.

His contract is expected to be terminated by mutual consent and he has been in talks with Walsall, Luton and MK Dons, with Luton the favourites to land him.
