Millers tame Shrews

THREE goals in the opening 20 minutes propelled promotion-chasing Rotherham United to a comfortable victory at rain-lashed Shrewsbury.

Tom Hitchcock, Ben Pringle and James Tavernier all struck as the Millers won 3-0 to maintain their push near the top of League One and notch a first ever victory at the Greenhous Meadow.

Hitchcock nodded in his first goal for the club since his loan move from QPR after only eight minutes before two goals in three minutes put dominant Rotherham in the clear.

Alex Revell picked out Pringle to hook in a great effort from the edge of the penalty area and Tavernier linked with Hitchcock to steer home the third.

Although Tom Eaves, who had a loan spell at the New York Stadium earlier this season, struck the inside of a post at 1-0 for the hosts, only the crossbar prevented Pringle adding to the lead from the last kick of the first half.

Trying to stave off a sixth straight home defeat, struggling Shrewsbury competed better after the break but without really testing goalkeeper Adam Collin. Stand-in skipper Lee Frecklington should have punished them further after seizing upon a misplaced back pass.

New signings Wes Thomas and Blair Turgott both got a run-out in the second half.
