Millers snap up midfielder

The 23-year-old has signed on loan until the end of the season from Middlesbrough.

A combative central midfielder, Smallwood has come through the youth ranks on Teesside and has made 13 appearances this season for the Championship club.

Out of contract this summer, he still has ambitions to secure a new deal with Boro and the switch to Rotherham is a chance to prove himself.  Yeovil and Bristol City were also chasing him.

Smallwood played against the Millers last summer in a friendly.
