Millers sink City

ROTHERHAM United bounced back to winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of Yorkshire rivals Bradford City at the New York Stadium this afternoon.

A brace from Gareth Evans against his old club and further strikes from Michael O’Connor and Ben Pringle secured a deserved victory in front of another bumper crowd of more than 11,000.

O’Connor’s stunning 35-yarder had the Millers ahead inside the first minute and the midfielder had a hand in the second goal on 24 minutes, gleefully lashed in by Evans in front of the City supporters.

Bradford had decent spells of possession in the first half but Rotherham’s sharper cutting edge going forward was emphasised again just past the half-hour mark.  Pringle picked the ball up just inside the opposition's half and with defenders backing off him he advanced to clip a beautiful effort in off a post from 20 yards for 3-0.

It was nearly four soon after the afterval when Kayode Odejayi’s header was cleared off the line by City skipper Gary Jones while Evans spurned a decent chance.

City’s expected second-half surge failed to materialise and Evans put gloss on the scoreline when he drove in the fourth goal four minutes from time.
