Millers share spoils at Aldershot

ROTHERHAM United rounded off their away programme in League Two with a 2-2 draw at Aldershot Town this afternoon.

The Millers led 2-1 at half time with goals from Gareth Evans and Sam Hoskins, his first for the club, before being pegged back as both teams ended the game with ten men.

Missing top scorer Lewis Grabban, out due to illness, Rotherham were the better side in the first half and deservedly led at the break.

They took the lead on nine minutes when Gareth Evans was upended in the box and then stepped up to beat Jamie Young from the penalty spot.

Peter Vincenti prodded Aldershot level from close range in the 20th minute before on-loan striker Hoskins, in for Grabban, restored the lead on the half-hour mark, chipping over Young and in at the far post from an acute angle.

The damage could have been greater, with Jason Taylor’s header forcing a goalline clearance from Josh Payne and Alex Revell’s shot on the turn bringing a fine save from Young.

Facing the slope in the second half, the Millers conceded 11 minutes in when Guy Madjo headed in after a scramble from Payne’s corner kick.

A late offside flag denied Hoskins a second goal and the lively Evans brought a full-stretch save from Young before both sides were reduced to ten men within minutes of each other. Tom Newey was sent off for a second yellow card on 81 minutes and home substitute Jordan Roberts followed for his second bookable offence four minutes later.

Adam Mekki and Reece Connolly both missed good chances for the home side as they finished the stronger.
