Millers on track

ROTHERHAM United chief Steve Evans expects to have his ideal squad in place well in time for the big kick-off in a fortnight's time.

After last summer's major overhaul of the squad, Evans has made seven signings this close-season and would like a striker to become his next.

Having failed to agree terms with Falkirk striker Lyle Taylor, who subsequently joined Sheffield United, the Millers chief is looking elsewhere in the knowledge that he is well advanced in his plans.

He said: "We know what we want and in the next seven to ten days you will see the squad taking shape.

"We are bang on track and ahead of last year when we signed 20 players. This time we are adding to an already talented group and we will have competition in every area.

"We won't be running around just before the start trying to conduct major transfer business, we will be ready before that."

Unbeaten in pre-season and boosted by Tuesday's 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers, the Millers welcome ex-boss Mark Robins' Huddersfield Town to the New York Stadium tomorrow (3pm) and Middlesbrough on Tuesday (7.30pm). They also send a team to Stocksbridge on Wednesday night (7.3pm) in the quest to give game time to as many players as possible.
