Millers' new signing wants more game time

LEWIS Buxton says he wants to get back playing after joining the Millers from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The 31-year-old defender turned out for the Owls 10 times last season and is keen to add more appearences to his tally this coming term.

The former Portsmouth and Stoke player said: "It was simple, I just want to get back playing and have a good season and play every game I can.

“I found out I’d been released from Wednesday and then my agent got in contact with the club.

“I came down and met the manager and staff on Wednesday and I was really impressed and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

“My aim is just to have a positive season. I finished strongly last season and I want to push on. I know Joe Mattock and Richard Wood so hopefully that’ll help me settle into the side.

“I got back into the team towards the back end of the season and got over any problems I had so that was a positive for me.”

He is the second former Wednesday player to join Steve Evans' squad this close season, after fellow defender Jow Mattock signed.

Buxton said: “I spoke to Joe and had a quick chat with him and he had a lot of positive things to say about the manager and the atmosphere here which I experienced at the back end of last season.

“Obviously I’d been at Wednesday for a long time but I’m looking for a fresh start and I want to get back to the level I’m capable of."
