Millers content with contract situation

MILLERS chairman Tony Stewart says he is in no rush to extend manager Steve Evans' contract and that both are happy with the situation.

When the Millers chief came in for criticism during a rocky spell for the team in January, Stewart showed his support by offering to extend his current deal by a further two years.

Evans declined the offer, saying he wanted to prove himself first, and despite having subsequently won promotion, it doesn't necessarily mean a contract extension will automatically follow.

With other more pressing concerns and Evans barely a year into the three-year deal he signed on his arrival from Crawley Town last April, it is not a priority at the moment.

Stewart told the Advertiser: "Steve has two years left on his contract and he is happy with that.

"Halfway through last season I asked him whether he wanted an extension and he said 'I want to be here for ten years,' and we both laughed at that, so we are quite relaxed on these issues.

"All I know is, whether it is extending his contract or whatever, that will come naturally."
