Millers close in on Taylor deal

THE Millers are close to agreeing a new contract with Ryan Taylor.

The home-grown striker has blossomed to become the first-choice strike partner for top scorer Adam Le Fondre, netting four goals in his last five games.

Rotherham have been keen to tie him to a longer deal and are now closing in on a new two-and-a-half year agreement.

That would be good news for manager Ronnie Moore, who believes Taylor has the ability to add even more goals to compliment his intelligent link-up play.

He said: "It would be great for Ryan to stay because he is a local lad and he is really blossoming.

"I think the loan spell he had at Exeter at the end of last season did him the world of good.

"He played ever so well (in the play-off final) at Wembley and then he came in during the summer and worked really hard. If someone wants a physical battle with him now then he's more than capable of doing that.

"I believe he can play at a higher level and, without putting too much pressure on him, I can't see why he can't score 20 to 25 goals a season.

"He's enjoying his time here and him and Alfie have a little bit of an understanding at the moment.

"If both of them click at the same time then it will be raining goals.

"As for his contract, there are one or two little things to sort out but I'm hoping something can be done today."
