Mattock keeps faith in Millers

DEFENDER Joe Mattock says it is only a matter of time before Rotherham United's fortunes take a turn for the better.

The summer arrival from Sheffield Wednesday made his debut in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

That result, following the opening-day setback against MK Dons, leaves the Millers bottom of the early Championship standings.

With a game to come against newly-promoted Preston North End at the AESSEAL New York Stadium tonight and away to QPR this weekend, things aren't going to get any easier but Mattock believes the current group are good enough to negotiate a way through a tricky start and start putting some much-needed points on the board.

"For the first couple of months, there's no rest and each year it's getting tougher and tougher," he told the Advertiser. "Preston have just come up from League One and are an exciting, strong team who are hard to break down. QPR have dropped down from the Premier League with experienced players at that level.

"Things haven't gone our way so far but the lads are still gelling and without doubt we've got the ability in the team, so sooner or later the results are going to come."

Manager Steve Evans is set to keep faith with goalkeeper Kelle Roos and also wants to bring in more new faces before the transfer deadline on September 1.

Newly-promoted Preston have had a good start after promotion through the play-offs, beating MK Dons and drawing with much-fancied Middlesbrough.

Kick-off is 7.45pm.
