Liam Kay resigns as manager of struggling Swallownest FC

LIAM Kay has stepped down as manager of Swallownest FC after two months in charge of the Northern Counties East League strugglers.

Kay tendered his resignation in the wake of Saturday's 4-0 home defeat to bottom-of-the-table Athersley Rec.

The former Retford United boss took up the post in January in succession to Alex Nightingale but has not been able to turn the team's fortunes around.

Swallownest are without a win in 16 matches, dating back to October, and sit in the Division One relegation zone.

Assistant manager Andy Stevens has also stepped down.

In a statement, the club said it was looking to appoint a new management team on a short-term basis until the end of the season.

The remaining management team of Daniel Archibould, Chris Esberger and Craig Walley will take charge of the home fixture against Armthorpe Welfare on Saturday 4 (3pm).
