Lee leads the way for Harriers

HARRIER Lee Thompson led the way for Rotherham Harriers at the big Northern Track and Field Championships in Manchester on a weekend when the Herringthorpe club had a string of impressive performances.

Lee retained his champions status in the U20 men's 400m at the Eastlands Stadium, with an improved time over last year of 47.44.

And club-mate Samantha Johnson brought home a superb silver medal.

Samantha, in her first major championship of the season, had a great run to finish second in the Senior Women's 1500m in 4:29.63.

They were two of nine Harriers athletes competing.

Maltby's Reece Goodwin competed in the Parallel Success Ambulant 100m (13.78) and 400m (64.42) finishing fourth in both.

Kyle Craib set a great new personal best of 15:05.70 in the men's 5000m to finish eighth. Gareth Sampson (15th in 15:41.27) and Aidan Johnson (17th in 15:52.43) also set new bests, which shows the benefit derived from coach Pete Shaw's training schedules for the three endurance athletes.
