League test looms

ROTHERHAM United tackle their first league game at the New York Stadium this weekend lifted by an encouraging cup display.

They took Championship outfit Hull City to extra time on Saturday before losing 7-6 in a penalty shoot-out, with the unlucky Mark Bradley hitting the woodwork with the 14th attempt.

Now out of the Capital One League Cup, the Millers turn their attention to Saturday's historic opening league game at their new £20 million home against Burton Albion and midfield man David Noble, one of the many new signings, reckons the omens are good.

He said: "Everyone is still getting to know each other. With 11 signings, it's going to take time and to look so good straight away is positive.

"I think it was disappointing not to win during the normal 90 minutes on Saturday. We had better chances and should have had a penalty. It's just a lottery in the shoot-out and unfortunately we lost it."

Another newcomer, winger Lionel Ainsworth, will be pushing for a start having come on as substitute and put the Millers ahead with a cracking volley as the tie finished 1-1 after extra time.

The Millers send a team to play Kettering tonight.
