Jon steers England to success

HOCKEY stalwart Jon Bray skippered England to victory in the Over 45s Home Internationals in Belfast.

The Rotherham veteran helped England to beat Scotland and Wales 4-1 and 8-1 respectively on Saturday while he also managed to score against the Scots from a penalty corner.

He said: “That left us with a winner-takes-all games against Ireland on Sunday in what was a very hard fought battle, with Ireland doing everything they could to stop us playing the attractive and entertaining hockey we'd played on Saturday.

“After initially trailing 1-0 we dug deep and managed to equalise in the first half and then secured a 2-1 victory midway through the second half.”
