Hundreds of kids make Rotherham grassroots football tournament a winner

HUNDREDS of youngsters joined together for a special grassroots football tournament in Rotherham.

A total of 170 teams and more than 2,000 players took part in the event at Wickersley School and Sports College as part of M&S Food’s Eat Well Play Well’ campaign, which harnesses the power of football to help families make healthier eating choices.

An Eat Well shootout net was in place for budding football stars to practice their penalties.

All proceeds from the day were donated to Wickersley Youth Football Club. The funds will help to provide equipment for new teams, support the development of female players and help maintain the 37 teams within the club.

Eat Well is a health seal of approval which can be found on nearly 2,000 products in the M&S Foodhall.

A M&S spokesperson said: “We had a fantastic day hosting this football tournament and it was great to see so many teams and players get involved.

“Here at M&S, we’re committed to providing healthy choices for our customers, and offering opportunities for them to get active. There were certainly some future England stars in the crowd to watch out for!”
