Home tester for Millers

ROTHERHAM United aim to take the first step in an autumn climb up the Championship, starting against unbeaten Charlton Athletic at the New York Stadium tomorrow.

Without a win in four league and cup matches following Tuesday's 3-2 defeat at struggling Bolton, it doesn't get any easier for the Millers.

After tomorrow, promotion hopefuls Ipswich, Blackburn and Norwich all lay in wait, adding to an already testing start.

While the first season after promotion is proving just as difficult as he expected, manager Steve Evans wants his players to shake off the Bolton set-back and collect enough points to make sure they enter the next international break early next month in a comfortable position.

“It was a missed opportunity at Bolton because we were dominant,” he told the Advertiser. “Some of the football we played was outstanding but if you make individual mistakes like we did, you get punished at this level.

“I think the league is starting to take a little bit of shape but it is still tight and I'm 100 per cent sure our supporters know how hard it is.

“All the managers we've faced have remarked how efficient and well organised we are and now we've got to make sure we keep picking up points.”
