Grabban goes for goals

HOT-SHOT Lewis Grabban is hoping for a big team effort to replace the free-scoring exploits of new Reading striker Adam Le Fondre.

The Millers have shared out the goals in their first eight matches, with Gareth Evans and Grabban on four goals, and Alex Revell on two.

Speaking after Saturday's  3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, the former Crystal Palace man said “That’s four for the season now for me. I think I’ve made a good start and hopefully there’s more goals to come.

"I don’t really believe in setting myself targets, I just take things a game at a time and try to crack on.

"It’s important now that Alfie has gone that we all step up to the plate. You don’t need someone in the side who gets 25 goals a season if three or four players get ten or more."

With target-man Revell in the side, Andy Scott has implemented a more attacking style, with Grabban and Evans playing either side of the former Leyton Orient man.

However, 23-year-old Grabban says that although his strike partner has changed in recent matches, he is still capable of playing to his strengths and bagging his first senior hat-trick.

He added: "I’ve never got a hat-trick as a professional, and it would have been nice to have got one on Saturday but it just wasn’t to be.

“I was really running around chasing it but I didn’t really get another chance.”
