Gilbank misses stox world final

MARK Gilbank has failed in his bid to reach the Formula One Stock Car World final.

The Rotherham racer was making his first appearance this season on tarmac in the second semi-final at Buxton and looked well capable of making the top ten from the outside of the second row.

But in a 20-lap race littered with a number of race cautions he was forced to retire with damage to the rear suspension after being well-placed in the top five.

World champion Andy Smith went on to win the race with Paul Hines in second and eight-times world champion John Lund taking third.

This weekend's Formula One action is at Coventry on Saturday at 7pm.
