Get in tune you Millers fans

A NEW BBC competition has kicked off, sparking memories of a famous day for Rotherham United.

The Beeb have launched their Songs of Praise FA Cup Fan's Choir competition.

The aim is to build a choir to sing Abide with Me at this year’s Cup Final. The choir will be made up of 64 people, each representing the clubs that made it to this season's third round.

That will include a Millers fan — but it’s unlikely to emulate the achievements of the old Millmoor Kop on a brisk March day in 1970.

Then, the BBC launched the Kop Choir Competition featuring fans from around the country, including the red-hot favourites from Liverpool.

But the Rotherham fans, who sang their hearts out at a Division Three match against Halifax Town, beat the lot and were voted top of the kops.

That earned a trip of some of the fans and civic dignitaries to the European Cup Final at Milan’s San Siro Stadium when Feyenoord beat Celtic.

Fast forward to this season and fans have been asked to submit unique personal FA Cup stories to be in with a chance of winning.

Said a BBC spokesman: “The response has been great so far but we're keen to get an even spread across all parts of the country if possible.

“We've had some great stories so far, including the man who had his first kiss at a FA Cup final, which resulted in the lucky girl losing her teeth! The father who took his son to the Final and ended up sitting with the opposing fans and the young seven year old who met a pen pal at a FA Cup Final, only to marry her years later - and are still going strong after 26 years!”

Millers fans who fancy a go can enter via the BBC website. The deadline is Saturday, March 7.
