HOT Scottish prospect Jake Hastie today joined Rotherham United as the Millers wrapped up a deadline-day loan deal for the young Glasgow Rangers winger.

The 20-year-old is set to spend the rest of the League One campaign at AESSEAL New York Stadium after agreeing a season-long switch from Ibrox.

Hastie is regarded as one of Scotland's top young talents and was nominated for the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award last season when he was still a Motherwell player.

He moved to Rangers in May after turning own interest from Leeds United and several other English clubs, with the Scottish giants paying Motherwell around £350,000 in compensation for the product of the Steelmen's youth set-up.

Hastie travelled south of the border yesterday and finalised his move before today's 5pm transfer-window deadline to become Rotherham's 12th signing of the summer.

After loan spells at Airdrie and Alloa, he broke into Motherwell's side last January, scoring six goals in 17 Scottish Premier League outings, five of which were as a substitute.

He has made two appearances for Rangers this season - one in the Europa League and one in the Scottish League Cup - and boss Steven Gerrard wants him to gain more experience elsewhere.

The Scottish side were this afternoon close to completing the £7 million transfer of winger Ryan Kent from Liverpool.

Hully CIty and Sunderland were among the other teams chasing Hastie before he signed a four-year deal with Rangers.
