The centre-half, who signed a short-term deal with the Millers in March last term, has agreed a one-year contract at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

This afternoon's announcement of the deal came 24 hours after fellow free agents Sean Morrison and Lee Peltier also came back to South Yorshire and committed their futures to the club for a further 12 months.

Blackett, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester United and has played in the Premier League, made seven appearances towards the end of last season as Rotherham sealed their second-tier safety.

The 29-year-old's quality was evident but his game-time was curtailed by hamstring issues. He hadn't played for more than three months prior to his arrival in S60 following his departure from American side Cincinnati.

The former Reading player is part of the group that has returned for pre-season training this week and Rotherham are hoping that a full summer programme will have him restored to full fitness by the time they kick off at Stoke City on August 5 opening day.
