A ROTHERHAM United transfer target has told manager Paul Warne that he wants to join the Millers.

Warne met the player on Saturday and convinced him during a long conversation that AESSEAL New York Stadium is the right place for him.

"I had a coffee with him for three hours, showed him how we wanted to play and how he'd fit into the team," the Rotherham boss said after Sunday's FA Cup third-round defeat at Premier League champions Manchester City.

"I asked him to think about it for a few days and see if he wanted to come. He texted me within an hour saying he really wanted to come. Hopefully that will get done in the next couple of days."

Warne didn't reveal the player's position but has said in the last week that he is looking to bring in a striker from a Premier League outfit.

The boss, who was meeting another potential recruit today, is also keen to sign a central midfielder and a winger during the January window.

The Championship Millers were beaten 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium by a City side that cost £390 million to assemble and contained four 2018 World Cup semi-finalists in Kyle Walker, John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne.

"I didn't invite the player to the game," Warne said. "I am not as stupid as I look.

"He will see the scoreline, but I am not embarrassed by the score at all.

"It was a joy to bring my team here and if they learn something from the game that helps them one per cent then it is not a day wasted."
