MIDFIELDER Christ Tiehi looks to be heading to Rotherham United but the deal may take some time to be completed.

The Championship Millers are moving step by step towards an announcement that the French-born Ivory Coast youth international, who was on loan at Wigan Athletic in the second tier last season, is coming to AESSEAL New York Stadium on a permanent deal.

However, there are a number of protocols they must follow before they can register a player from abroad.

The 25-year-old's parent club are Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic which means more red tape than usual is involved in the transfer as the 25-year-old will require a work permit and international clearances to play again in England.

“It's now with the Home Office,” manager Matt Taylor said after Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United at New York. “It's the most complicated situation I've ever been involved in.”

“He's still contracted to another club so that's why it's difficult to talk about it at length. Until he's no longer contracted to another club and is our player, there's not a lot I can say.”

Tiehi is in England and has been present at the Millers’ recent pre-season matches.

The midfield man who began his career with Le Havre in France, has a year left on his Liberec contract and it is believed Rotherham are paying a fee to take him from the Czech outfit.

He played against Taylor’s men last term, catching the eye for already- relegated Wigan during the final-day clash at the DW Stadium that ended in a 0-0 draw.
